A House, and Senate, Divided

Fundamental change in our federal government cannot happen with a divided Legislative and Executive branch. In order to have real change we need the Congress to have a single party with a voting majority and a President of the same party. Don't forget that a majority in the Senate is 60 votes, not 51. And you can't count on Lieberman who is a traitor to the Democrat Party. Even then change may not occur without one person in the lead whose support includes a vast majority mandate of public opinion behind them.

If a true majority is not achieved by one party, it won't matter whether a Democrat or a Republican is elected President, nothing will get done, as usual. So the main reasons why the party of the new President matters is the ability to appoint members of the Supreme Court and the power as Commander-in-Chief.

A Republican President would be a disaster for our Freedom! Two or three new Supreme Court Judges may be appointed by our new President. Christian morality is fine for Christians but I would not want it to be imposed on our country. One Republican candidate has clearly said he would use Amendments to bring the Constitution in line with the Bible! And they all say they will appoint "Strict Constructionist Judges;" that means Right-wing Conservative. We will lose more of our freedom and right to choose.

The other reason why a Republican President would be dangerous is the continuation of our war policies. McCain for example has said we could be in Iraq forever. A Republican President would be a disaster in our relationships with Pakistan, Iran, North Korea, and all countries that would normally be our allies and supporters. I have believed since the Police Action in Viet Nam that the U.S. must stop trying to force our beliefs on the world through military force. I do believe in "peace through strength" but you can't ever force a people to like you by killing their countrymen, even if those you kill are extremists. It's like killing the black sheep of someone's family. You can't win by doing it. That family is going to oppose you at every turn and never consider you a friend. A Democrat President is more likely to be a peacemaker and to try to lead the nations of the world by example.
