The Federal Government Stops!

Election Day is tomorrow.  The Democrats will win the House, the Senate is too close to call, so, at least, we don't have to worry about any more tax giveaways to the rich; no more attacks on the First Amendment.  But there will be little reversal of Bush's policies, at least until he is out of office.  Why, because he will veto any bill he doesn't like and there are not enough votes to override.

Except for bills that have bipartisan agreement, which are few, the Federal Government will make no new legislation.  They should just take a couple years vacation on us!

Update: Day after the election.  Democrats take the House. The control of the Senate may not be determined until December!  Taking the Senate will help the Democrats but Bush can still stop anything they want to do and he doesn't have to worry about reelection.  BUT if Bush cares about a Republican victory in the 2008 election, he must make nice with the Democrats so that his party's nominee isn't beaten due to linkage with Bush as a partisan obstructionist.

As I am writing this I'm watching election coverage on TV.  I just heard a Republican congressman, who won his race, say that nothing will get done in the new Congress.  He expressed his opinion that the Democrats will be seen as having no definite vision for our country's direction, unable to get anything done, and that in 2008 the Republicans will regain control.  Then he said, "Now, since nothing is going to get done anyway, I'm going on a two year hiatus."  He left the stage.

By the way, I predicted months ago that Republican John McCain will be the next President of the United States.  The only chance the Democrats have at convincing the electorate to vote for a Democrat Presidential Candidate and not against the Republicans in 2008 is to unite in a clear and popular vision for our country's future.  Unfortunately, by their very nature, Democrats can't do that.  So, the only way a Democrat can win is if there is another al Qaeda attack in the U.S.  In that case, ANY Democrat will win.  And that's just soo sad!
