Early Voting, It's About Time!

I am proud to say that I have voted in nearly every election in my lifetime.  I remember the first time I voted in 1972.  It didn't turn out well when my candidates, McGovern/Shriver got creamed in the electoral college 520 to 17.  I was not deterred.  In every election since, I have had to find a way to get to the polling place on that special Tuesday in November.  If you had to work or were out of town you would find voting inconvenient and easy to skip.  Voting is a sacred trust.  I take it seriously.  But it should be easier to get done.  I have always thought that election day should have been changed to the first full weekend in November expanding the balloting to 2 days when more people have an opportunity to vote.

Early voting is even better.  It gives about two weeks for people to vote.  The lines are shorter and you can plan for doing it on your day off.  I voted today, my day off.  The polling place was about five minutes away from home with plenty of parking.  I walked in, filled out a short ID form, showed my drivers license and voted.  I was in and out in about seven minutes.  It was great!  Anyone who thinks voting is a hassle should take advantage of early voting, and you'll feel good too.
