Country First

John McCain is running with the slogan "Country First."  It occurred to me that although this sounds like a good thing, it may not be.  Communism is about the people giving up personal and individual freedoms for the good of the state.  The Soviet Union's slogan could well have been "Country First."  And in recent years, many of our freedoms have fallen victim to the logic that we must accept new limits on our freedom in the name of putting the country first.  Republicans talk about limiting government while at the same time they continually try to enhance our security by limiting our freedom and they try to control our individualism by legislating morality.  I refuse to give in to this Republican fear-mongering.  I would rather die free than give in to this attack on my freedom from within.

Honestly, I believe that John McCain is a patriot and a good man, and definitely not a Communist, but he is misguided and if we are not careful, he will misguide all of us.  His fear, yes, his fear has led him down a trail that leads to the erosion of freedom and the renewal of policies that inevitably lead to war.  If he truly deserves to be President and lead us, his slogan should be "People First."  Unfortunately, his party believes in "Rich People First."  And the Republicans are willing to cling to trickle-down economic theory that damages the middle class and the American Dream in order to maintain the rich people's wealth, while at the same time allowing the ranks of the poor to swell.  Never in this nation's history has the disparity between rich and poor been so great and so destructive.  If he becomes President, his idea of "Country First" will make the lives of 95% of the American People worse!

The President has one job and he takes an oath to "preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States."  The first words of that document are,

"We The People..."
