Experience Matters, Except When It Doesn't

Barack Obama made his speech at the Democratic National Convention last night accepting the nomination for the Presidency of the United States.  I am a fan of his and I will vote for him in November, so I am biased, but I am also fair.  When McCain and Obama appeared at Saddleback Church and answered questions from the Pastor, McCain kicked ass.  But last night I heard one of the best political speeches I have ever heard.  And, of course, most Republican talking heads fell all over themselves trying to put it down.  They just can't say it was a great speech.  When you give up honesty for your own purposes you move a little bit closer to Hell.

Today John McCain announced his choice for Vice President, Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska.  She is a forty-four year old ex-beauty queen mother of five married to a commercial fisherman.  She has been governor for less than two years.  She is a gun-toting moose meat lover who was previously the mayor of an Alaskan town of 8,000.  When she became governor, Palin got rid of the governor's airplane and mansion staff.  (She found them all jobs.)  She is a self-proclaimed reformer with a very high popularity percentage of over 80%.  She is very conservative, even believing that abortion in the case of rape or incest is wrong and should be outlawed, a position even John McCain doesn't share.  Palin is also currently under investigation for abusing her office by having her ex-brother-in-law fired from his state job because he had a fight with her sister.

Ever since Barack Obama announced his candidacy for President, the Republicans have attacked his experience level.  Though he has as much experience as a young Abraham Lincoln, the Republicans have hammered Barack on this point and EVERY SINGLE REPUBLICAN HAS AGREED WITH THIS CRITICISM!  Now their tune has changed.  Obama is not qualified because he doesn't have EXECUTIVE experience, but Palin has been a governor of a state of 670,000 people for a year and a half!  That makes her qualified to be President.

OH MY GOD!  WHAT A BUNCH OF HYPOCRITES!  WHY AREN'T WE ALL LAUGHING THEM OUT OF OFFICE!  HOW CAN ANY REGULAR REPUBLICAN VOTER ACCEPT THIS OBVIOUS CRAP!

And women should be outraged!  There are so many more qualified women.  This woman is wrong on every other women's issue; reproductive rights, child care, health care, equal pay, equal rights... I just don't get it!  Also, how can any woman who would have voted for Hillary Clinton vote for this woman and McCain?  If the only reason for voting is because she's a woman, then I understand.  Otherwise, talk about cutting off you nose to spite your face!  All I can do is shake my head in disbelief.  It comforts me to know that if McCain dies and she becomes President, she will know what to do if a moose calls her at 3:00 AM!

Addendum Sept. 2, 2008:  Palin's 17 year old daughter is pregnant out of wedlock!  I guess Palin forgot to teach her daughter at least two of the most  important religious precepts, abstinence and the sanctity of marriage!
