A New Henry Ford

We need a new car for the masses.  The cheapest new car is about $10,000.  If you have good credit, it's over $200 per month and insurance is at least $100; gas, oil, maintenance, $100; that's $400 per month.  How can a person who makes $10 and hour afford a new car?  The answer is simple... they can't.

I see them riding their bicycles and walking.  They work hard.  They contribute to society and how are they rewarded?  They are unable to own a home.  They can't afford a car.  They are just expected to keep working and keep their mouths shut!  This is the greatest country in the world for 40% of us.  Someday the other 60% will wake up and realize the American Dream is crap.  It has been for years now.

It would be nice if there was some kind of covered, motorized vehicle that was truly affordable, the Model T for the 21st century.  It wouldn't have to go 100 miles an hour and it wouldn't have to be fancy, just better than a bicycle or walking for a hard-working, tired people who deserve more.  And we might think of some kind of ownership of entry-level housing for these people too.

A lot of the high price of cars is caused by government safety regulations.  This car would have to be treated like a motorcycle for safety purposes.  I picture some sort of covered tricycle with a small motor, like 10 horse power.  Real basic transportation.  I know it could be done and it would change the lives of thousands for the better.
