Better Off Dead

A lot of people think that the lives of those around them might be better if they were dead.  With economic tensions already high and rising, it is hard for many families to get by.  But many of those who provide for those families have life insurance and at least once think that their family would be better off if they died.  Many times when my financial outlook turns bleak, I think about how my daughter could be better off if she collected my life insurance money.  It's worth more than I will ever be able to give her while I'm alive.

If you have a relative with a decent estate who might bequeath you money and you are not doing so well, it could be easy to fall into the trap of thinking that you would be better off if they were dead.  I guess that is one measure of how much you love someone.  What point is it that you would wish them dead?  How much money are they worth to you?  How much financial distress are you willing to bear as you watch them live well, before you come to the conclusion that you wish they would die?

It never ceases to amaze me how well-to-do people explain their reasons for not being generous with their family.  First, the rich one says, "I earned everything I have!"  And second, "If I can do it, you can."  And finally, "It's not my fault. Maybe you should work harder."

Oh well, it's easy for a poor working person to think that generosity is easy.
