If It Seems Too Bad To Be True...

The most effective way to make your point and put an opponent on the defensive is to use propaganda.  I define propaganda as twisting the truth to fit your needs.  If you don't lie about your opponent he cannot deny it and if he fights he will come off as a whiner who can't take the heat.  But as an outside observer who wants to know the truth and want that truth to be fairly stated, you must dig deeper and know your source.

I remember years ago in high school when propaganda was explained to me.  I must admit I found the concept cool.  There was an article in the Soviet Union's Party Newspaper Pravda about a contest between automakers.  The headline went something like this.  "The Russian car came in second place and the American car finished second to last."  This was absolutely true.  What the article failed to explain was that there were only two cars in the contest.  The American was first and the Russian car was second.

Barack Obama supported a slumlord.  Yeah... because Barack was a member of a law firm who had a slumlord for a client.  Hillary Clinton supports adultery.  Yeah... She decided to stay married so she didn't divorce Bill for cheating.  John Edwards takes money from lobbyists.  Yeah... a fifty dollar political contribution from an overworked, underpaid secretary who works for a lobbying organization.

Don't be fooled.  Question your sources.  Your best friend may bend your mind unjustly.  Most important... pay attention.
