You're Killing Me!  No, really!

Call me wimp.  Call me whatever you want.  It will not change my mind that "water boarding" is torture and torture in any form is bad!  There is no cause great enough for me to forgo my belief that lowering yourself to the level of thugs, despots, and criminals is ever justifiable.  We are better than that, no matter how emotional we get or how much easier or expedient it would make fact finding.

Some people say that water boarding isn't even torture.  My definition of torture is pretty simple; if you are threatened with the possibility, or actually made to suffer pain, maiming, or death, that is torture.  If you are captured by anyone, restrained, blindfolded, and tied to a table, you are already being tortured!  What are you afraid is going to happen?  Do you think they're going to tickle you?  When a rag is stuffed in your mouth to reduce your ability to breathe, and water is poured over your mouth and nose, that is just icing on the cake!  Picture yourself in that situation, drowning, choking, panicking, how could any sane person believe that this is not torture?  And don't give me any crap about legal definitions, you have to be an idiot if you think you wouldn't soil your pants and BELIEVE that you were going to die if this brutal practice was unleashed on you!

"But it could save lives," you say.  But, but, but...  I don't want to be a part of a society that is saved by compromising our principles.  Any American man is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law and I would extend that to any man, anywhere, no matter how much I may not like him.  Even the most diligent law officer can be wrong and he cannot be allowed to make decisions for the Court.  And I have never heard of a Court in the United States legally sentencing any criminal to torture!  (Although, I do consider the death penalty tantamount to torture!)

And when you torture a person of another country you are sending a message to the enemy that it is okay.  If we can do it to you, you can do it to us!  Is that what we want?  "But they will do it to us anyway!"  You say.  I can hear my Mother's scolding voice in my mind, "Just 'cause everybody else is jumping off a cliff, do you think you should?"  The cliff she spoke of is at the edge of the valley of sin.

It never ceases to amaze me that the same people in our government who claim that they are the "True Chosen," are the same ones who condone torture, preemptive war, and the death penalty, not to mention turning their backs on the murder of abortionists and the rights of family members to decide the fate of their incapacitated loved ones!  True Christians follow Christ's teachings, He was tortured for all of us, and most of all for the sinners.  We cannot be a society of hate and revenge.  We must be one of compassion, understanding, and love, EVEN WITH OUR ENEMIES, no matter how difficult that road is to traverse!  It is better to die defending what Jesus would do than to live as the Great Satan of the world.
