Have a Little Faith

Every time a religious person can't explain or defend a position they hold, they invoke "faith" as their explanation.  Ask them to prove the existence of God.  They say, "I have Faith."  But as time moves forward and the previously unexplained is explained, faith is no longer required because truth and science now explain things.  A little faith is fine, but blind faith is dangerous.

When the Bible was written the Earth was flat, the Sun revolved around the Earth, and stars were just lights in Heaven.  The Church refused to accept scientific explanations of things and they kept telling us to have faith.  The Church even killed people who refused to comply with their version of reality.  Eventually, the Church has accepted the truth.  But there are still plenty of unexplained things.  Where we can't answer the question with science, we can still fill in the blanks with faith.  But the most important idea to take away from this is that the Church can be wrong!  If they can be wrong about such basic things as the structure of the solar system, what makes you sure that anything else they teach is right?  Faith?

I still have faith that there is a God.  However, I have no faith that anyone on Earth, of any religion, can codify correctly or completely understand God's plan for us.  Religion is an invention of Man, a way of trying to understand the universe.  Sometimes I wonder how any intelligent person can be so convinced their version of God's plan is the right one that they are willing to die trying to force their version on others.  Faith?  A truly Godly person must reserve a place in their heart for other people to have their own version of faith.  Faith should not be used as an excuse to stop thinking.  Faith should not be used as an excuse to disrespect others.

Science currently believes in the Big Bang, a giant and blinding explosion from something very tiny.  From that came everything we know.  But no scientist can tell you what came before that.  Where did that tiny something come from?  What did the universe look like before the Big Bang?  How do you explain that?  I fill in that blank with faith.  God, a supreme being with a comprehension infinitely higher than any human being, is the only explanation that fits this problem.
