Give Me Liberty or Give Me Teeth!

I heard a story about a guy who was in a lot of pain and could not afford to get his teeth fixed, so he committed a crime to get back in jail where he knew he would receive free health care. Does that make you think?

I am for full and free health care for everybody. It is not the fault of a guy that works in a hamburger joint making $8.00 an hour that he can’t even afford the co-pay, if he has any insurance at all. If he doesn’t have insurance, he can’t afford to go to a doctor at all anyway. So, he doesn’t go to the doctor until he shows up in the emergency room where he can’t be turned away. That ends up costing taxpayers MORE than if he had had preventive care! But no matter to me, every American has the RIGHT to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. How can that happen if you are sick?

Getting sick is like winning some kind of reverse lotto.  You are entered as soon as you are conceived.  How is it fair that a person who is born with or contracts some disease is ignored by the rest of us and left to get help on their own?  This is just not right!  A just society cannot simply say that if you cannot afford help, you don't get it.  If you survive your trip to the emergency room, you are presented a bill you can't pay and you are forced into financial ruin.  Haven't you suffered enough?

I guess you could argue that people that are fat or alcoholics or any other “self-inflicted” sickness may not deserve free care, but I would argue that if the root cause of their sickness is not physical then it is probably some kind of mental illness that should be treated for free anyway.  Forget all that, I believe that we should help no matter what.

It would cost a lot! And I have no idea how it would be administered. But it needs to be done and I know who should pay for it. It is not right that only 15% of the people in this country can afford full, top-notch health care. And those same 15% have most of the money. What is more important, a bigger yacht or extending someone else’s life?

And another thing; dental care is always separate from medical health care. Dental care should be included in any health care plan and fully covered. It is time for a change in the way we think on this subject. It is time that we make ALL of our citizens as healthy and as happy as possible.
