I Say I'm an Independent

Honestly, I refuse to be a part of either political party in the United States because it seems that in any debate with the other side they are required to defend their party first, even if it is to the detriment of the American People.  When I could first vote back in 1971, I declared myself a Democrat.  But within a few years I realized that the most important priorities of a Democrat or a Republican was, first, to disdain and dismiss the other party's ideas, and second, to "hold the party line" at all costs, even if it compromises the best interest of the country.

Recently the Congress has gone back to the Democrats.  They have the chance to make things right.  They have a chance to take our wonderful Nation in the correct direction away from the war in Iraq.  They have a chance to make things better for all those financially wronged by the Republicans' tax cuts for the rich.  They have a chance to show the world how to compromise with our allies and negotiate with our enemies.  But instead all I see is the same old rhetoric and posturing.

The Republicans preach that Democrats "tax and spend" while at the same time the Republicans cut taxes and spend money to fund a war that could drive the debt soo high our children's children will have to pay for it.  So what do the Democrats do?  They come up with a bill to end the war, which it what most Americans want.  But what do they do in that same bill?  They tack BILLIONS of dollars of spending for pork barrel projects to get a compromise!  IDIOTS!  They could have sent Bush a clean bill and come off looking great when Bush vetoed it.  AND THEY KNOW HE'S GOING TO VETO IT!  But they put in the pork anyway!  MORONS!  Now Bush can say he doesn't like it and has a reason that a majority of Americans understand is a good reason to veto it.  DUMB ASSES!

When I vote, I usually vote Democrat because their platform is closer to my own.  But I can't and won't claim to be a Democrat because, as a party, they are hypocritical and too partisan.  The Republicans are worse.  The bottom line is that, for me, the choice is always between the lesser of two evils.  I will not be a part of either group because they put their own interests above that of the People.
