What The Freak Is Going On?

(This blog contains explicit language and expletives!

YOU MUST BE 18 YEARS OLD OR OLDER!)

Words.  They are all just words, but some can make people blush or even angry at the use.  We have more than one word for everything, so is the richness of the English language.  Some words that describe a thing can be used in "polite" speech and another word that means exactly the same thing is considered impolite, rude, or even illegal.  Also, over the passage of time, some words that were considered impolite have become, if not polite, at least, acceptable.

One word I can't quite accept as okay now is "ass," a reference to the derriere or butt, as I like to say.  If I say the word "ass," I cringe a little.  I would never have used that word in front of my Mother, God rest her soul.  She would not have accepted it.  It is impolite and rude.  She didn't like any reference to the rear end, but if it had to be said she would have preferred "backside" or the like.

It seems to me that broadcast television is the guide for acceptable speech today.  If it is okay to say it on broadcast television, you can say the word anywhere.  Ass, son-of-a-bitch, and pissed off are now okay.  And reference to body parts in a clinical way is also okay.  You can say "penis" and "vagina" if you wish, but you just can't get too descriptive about what the penis and vagina are being used for.

In my mind, I always come back to the same thing.  It's just a word!  Shit!  I mean, Crap!  I got piss on my ass from sitting on that fucking train seat.  Sorry!  I got urine on my rear end from sitting on that freaking train seat.  I mean really, get past the taboos, don't those two sentences say the exact same thing?  I think they do.

Even though I think that we should be able to say any word that correctly describes what we wish to say, I also understand that society has rules.  And I also must admit that when people around me use bad language, I still cringe.  I am a God damn, I mean, gosh darn hypocrite!
