Ugly Thoughts

I am ashamed of myself for being so judgmental of human physical beauty.  I believe that any person's attractiveness, or lack of it, should be irrelevant.  The term "ugly" is not only cruel but unproductive.  I wish that I could see everyone as beautiful.

As I walked down the street to grab a burger at McDonald's, I saw a woman over a block away.  I thought to myself, "Her face is ugly."  She was walking toward me and as she got nearer my opinion did not change.  At only a few feet away, she was definitely ugly.

I began to wonder how I determined her lack of attractiveness at such a distance.  Her face couldn't have been bigger than my pinky fingernail at arm's length when I made my original determination.  And when she was close-up, she didn't have anything abnormal to her but she was ugly.  She had all the normal features in all the right places.

There have been studies made on this subject.  Eyes too close; nose too big; lips unbalanced... Why can't we see everyone as beautiful?
