Go Ahead, Make My Day!

I waited at the Davis Street CTA Station for my train to downtown Chicago.  I stood in my favorite spot beside a giant sign that said "DAVIS."  After riding it so many times, I had learned that one of the train's doors almost always stopped right at that spot.

The recorded announcement came on and said, "Attention customers, an inbound train toward the Loop will be arriving shortly."  Two minutes later, I watched as the El came down the track.  The first car of the eight car train rolled past me.  On the train and on the speakers outside every car, I could hear the announcement, "THIS IS DAVIS."  As the car stopped in front of me and the doors opened, the speakers on the car blared again, "THIS IS DAVIS."  This young guy on the train standing in the door not sure whether to get off or not looked at me and asked, "Is this Davis?"  Behind me was a big sign that said "DAVIS" in giant letters.  I said, "Yes, this is Davis."

A pretty young woman got on the train talking on her cell phone.  I heard her say, "Yeah, they fired me because they said I was scatter-brained and unfocussed!  Can you believe that?"  As the train left the station, I glanced at her as she was nodding, listening to whoever it was on the other end.  At the same time she was looking around as if to figure out exactly where she was.  She saw one of the four red signs that label every one of the eight cars on the train.  It read, "HOWARD."  Then she said, "Oh shit, I got on the wrong train."

A scantily clad African American woman sat behind me on the bus having a conversation with a friend.  "Girl" she said, "I wish I didn't have kids.  I could party every night like last night.  I love my kids but I like it when they stay with their Auntie.  Girl, last night I was with this guy I know for ten years and he acks me for oral sex.  I said, 'Nigga, you think I'm stupid?  You want THAT you gonna hafta learn 'bout hygienes!' "
