The Work Ethic

I work with a lot of young adults and I have learned something.  They don't like to work.  They spend so much of their workday evading the things they should be doing, I'm surprised that anything gets done at all!  Well, actually I know how the work gets done.  The few people like me who work at work get it all done and go home tired.

Don't get me wrong.  If I could do what I want every day, it would not be to go to my workplace and slave for my measly pay.  I would drive my car in endless circles listening to my favorite music while swearing at all the lousy drivers on the road.  I would go to the fast-food drive-thru's, overeat the pitiful food prepared by slackers, and complain to myself about how they always get my order wrong.  Occasionally I would take my college-age daughter with me so she could truly understand how pitiful my life would be without work.

Then at night I would retire to my media room, order pizza, and watch all my favorite TV shows that were recorded on my Tivo; and once in a while watch a DVD from my extensive movie collection.  What a life.

No, that wouldn't work.  I'm better off just doing my job, day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year, decade after decade.......
