War or Peace

September 11, 2001 scared the crap out of me.  It changed the way I see the world.  I was so comfortable in my snuggly American cocoon and then BLAM!  Before nine eleven all that hate and violence was over there, a million miles away.  Now it is here.  My first reaction was that we should frisk everybody and kill anyone who was even the least bit scary.

Okay, now I’m calm.  Guess what?  We don’t need to change any laws.  We always need to improve our security measures.  I have no problems with more police, but we have always needed more police to protect us from our own people!  We have the highest murder rate in the world by a huge margin!  Face it, if you want to be free you have to take chances.  Freedom leaves us open to attack.  If someone wanted to kill any of us, especially if they are willing to die in the attempt, THEY CAN!

Now let’s get our heads on straight.  About 2000 people died on 9/11/2001.  That is horrible, tragic, sad, disgusting, awful…  But since then how many Americans have died by terrorist attacks in the United States?  ZERO!  We all need to understand that there are some people who think they can affect change by violence.  They cannot!  And neither can we!

We are now involved in a war that has been going on in one way or another for over 1000 years!  Nobody has ever won.  Everybody loses!  While there have been ZERO deaths in the U.S., we have lost close to 2000 more of our people in Iraq!  I hear what the supporters of the war say, but I’m sorry, it makes no sense.  While we are making Iraq safe for democracy, more martyrs are being created.  And soon the terrorists will have their own nukes.  What country will we retaliate against then?

I think our way of life is great.  There is no better place to live in this world than the United States.  We are unique.  But there is no way that the United States is ever going to make peace with a Muslim country by killing Muslims, no matter how extreme they are.  Other Muslims see this as an extension of the Crusades!  Once again the Infidels are trying to force their ways on the Muslim world.  This policy is doomed to failure.

What do you do when you meet someone whom you don’t like?  Do you try to change them or do you let them live the way they want to and just not invite them to your party?

Meanwhile, there is pain and suffering in our country and around the world that we CAN DO SOMETHING ABOUT!  Maybe you can think of a better way to spend $200,000,000,000 than on a war we can’t win.  AIDS, Parkinson’s, schools, infrastructure, healthcare, my cable bill….

It shocks me when Christians support war and reject charity.  Bottom line – If I have my choice of killing people or saving lives; I choose saving lives!
